The 2012 Cabernet Franc shows classic Cabernet Franc aromas of dark chocolate, fresh earth, leather, dried berry, anise and sage. Full bodied with mouth filling richness and wonderful texture that is both lush and dense. Delicious flavors of dark cherry, soft plumb, anise and undertones of mineral and baking spice weave together into a long finish that continues to show off the rich soft texture of this wine.
Nestled in the Sierra foothills at an elevation of 500′, the Clos du Lac vineyard has proven to be an ideal location for growing several premium grape varietals, particularly Cabernet Franc. Our Cabernet Franc comes from older vines grown in decomposed granite soils.
A portion of the final blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, which comes from the renowned Stage Coach Vineyard, situated atop Atlas Peak (1200 to 1750 feet), which has consistently produced top quality Cabernet Sauvignon fruit dominated by classic “mountainside” characteristics with big, balanced tannins, and extremely complex flavors, resulting in a delicious wine.
