Cabernet Sauvignon

Our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from two of the finest vineyards in Napa Valley.  The core of the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit comes from a Howell Mountain vineyard situated on the outskirts of the town of Angwin. This vineyard has consistently produced top quality Cabernet Sauvignon fruit for over 80 vintages.  Randy Dunn of Dunn Vineyards, and a small number of boutique wineries also are fortunate to obtain some of this extremely sought after fruit.  This mountain vineyard produces extremely small, concentrated berry clusters with very thick skin resulting in dark, concentrated, intense, complex and delicious wine.

The second vineyard for our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes is located on the valley floor in the St. Helena appellation.  The vines are is mostly clone 29, and clone 7.  The wine produced from this vineyard provide additional flavors, complexity, and supple qualities to the final blend of our delicious Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Franc

Nestled in the Sierra foothills at an elevation of 500′, the Clos du Lac vineyard has proven to be an ideal location for growing several premium grape varietals, particularly Cabernet Franc. Our Cabernet Franc comes from older vines grown in decomposed granite soils.

The 2012 Cabernet Franc consists of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown at the renowned Stage Coach Vineyard, situated atop Atlas Peak (1200 to 1750 feet), which has consistently produced top quality Cabernet Sauvignon fruit dominated by classic “mountainside” characteristics with big, balanced tannins, and extremely complex flavors, resulting in a delicious wine.

Pinot Noir

A portion of the grapes were grown in the cool temperatures of the Carneros region, which borders San Pablo Bay. The other grapes are from the even cooler regions of Atlas Peak, which sits at an elevation of more than 2,000 feet. All of the chosen grapes were fermented separately, and blended.

Sauvignon Blanc

Metaphora’s winemaker Mark Herold sourced the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the renowned Solari Vineyards in Napa Valley, which have produced some of Napa’s finest grapes since the 1960s.

Rosé of Pinot Noir

The 2013 Metaphora Rosé of Pinot Noir is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the cool temperatures of the Carneros region of Napa Valley bordering San Pablo Bay, and from grapes grown in the cooler regions of Napa Valley’s Atlas Peak, at an elevation of over 2000 feet.
